Thales deploys eSIM subscription platform on Google Cloud - ZDNet Posted: 04 May 2020 08:42 PM PDT ![]() Thales has deployed a public cloud version of its embedded SIM (eSIM) remote subscription platform on Google Cloud to help telcos manage the increase of mobile subscription for eSIM-capable devices. As part of the initial deployment, the platform, which Thales touted is GSMA-certified, will be accessible by telcos on Google Cloud in more than 200 countries and territories. "By collaborating with Google Cloud teams, we have designed a global service to answer the exponential demand for new eSIM devices," Thales mobile connectivity solutions SVP Emmanuel Unguran said. "This hybrid infrastructure is a springboard to innovative IoT applications in a standardised and interoperable security framework. By achieving GSMA certification our cloud-based solution provides a trusted and compliant platform for telecom operators." Last September, Australia's incumbent telco Telstra extended its eSIM functionality to consumer and small business customers. The technology has been within Australia's incumbent telco since 2017 when it launched Telstra One Number. Apple has supported eSIMs since the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR round of announcements, while Google has supported eSIM since the Pixel 2. Optus owner Singtel first started supporting eSIMs in January 2017. Related Coverage |
Thales selects Google Cloud to expand its eSIM management solution - Intelligent CIO Africa Posted: 05 May 2020 06:37 AM PDT ![]() Thales has deployed the world's first GSMA-certified eSIM activation solution on Google Cloud. This solution will offer telecom operators secure and highly scalable support to manage increases in mobile subscriptions for eSIM-capable devices. It also lets them benefit from the reliability of Google Cloud's carbon neutral technology. eSIM adoption is being fueled by a new generation of smartphones, tablets, wearables and new IoT use-cases. Thales' subscription management expertise not only ensures seamless remote activation of a vast number of devices but also provides data analytics and protection of the subscriber's data. With telecom operators facing the combined challenges of rapid Digital Transformation and a drastically growing eSIM ecosystem, Thales has responded by creating a public cloud-based version of its proven eSIM Remote Subscription Platform. In this initial deployment, the platform will run on Google Cloud, which is available in more than 200 countries and territories across the globe. Thales has implemented first-class security standards specifically designed to meet the requirements of GSMA certification in a public cloud environment. Telecom operators can also benefit from the Thales subscription management solution which offers unprecedented levels of operational flexibility, both in terms of auto-scaling and capacity management. As a result, enterprises will be able to take full advantage of subscription business growth in the years ahead. |
Splunk Cloud analytics platform lands on Google Cloud in beta - SiliconANGLE Posted: 05 May 2020 06:00 AM PDT ![]() Splunk Inc. is bringing its big-data analytics platform to Google Cloud and integrating it with a number of Google Cloud services to enable enterprises to get more actionable insights from their data and drive faster decision-making. Splunk Cloud is a version of Splunk's main Data-to-Everything platform, delivered as software-as-a-service. The software is used by enterprises to search, correlate, analyze, monitor and report on data in real time. By integrating with Google Cloud, Splunk's customers will be able to make data-driven decisions without needing to buy, manage or deploy any additional information technology architecture, the companies said. "Splunk Cloud on Google Cloud brings customers a "single-pane view for investigating, monitoring, analyzing and acting on their data" that's secured within their Google Cloud infrastructure, the companies said. In addition, Splunk Cloud customers can tap Google Cloud's technology capabilities, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, security, networking and data analytics. Meanwhile, the integrations with Google Anthos, Google Cloud Security Command Center and Stackdriver help ensure the most critical Splunk data can be shared among various applications, enabling customers to draw insights from multiple cloud platforms. Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian cited Splunk's additional data analytics capabilities for information technology, security and user behavior. "We chose to partner with Google Cloud to deliver the technology, capabilities and trusted infrastructure required to help businesses connect all forms of data," said Splunk CEO Doug Merritt. "Splunk's partnership with Google Cloud will help empower even more customers to harness nearly limitless data opportunities across IT, Security and Application Development while remaining agile and cost-effective." Constellation Research Inc. analyst Holger Mueller told SiliconANGLE that it makes tremendous sense for Splunk to get its software on infrastructure-as-a-service platforms such as Google's cloud. Splunk Cloud is already available on Amazon Web Services. "The data-intensive nature of Splunk, coupled with Google's data and AI capabilities, makes these two vendors a powerful combination to help enterprises make sense of their data and power their next-generation applications," Mueller said. "Going forward it will be interesting to see if Splunk will be able to provide a common layer for Splunk Cloud across its different IaaS partners. After all, workload and code asset portability matters to enterprises as they wish to avoid vendor lock-in." Splunk Cloud on Google Cloud is now available in beta for early access customers, with general availability of the service promised later in the year.
